Classroom Guidance – The counselors conduct classroom sessions every other week for 6th grade students and once a month for 7th & 8th grade students.

Small Group Counseling – Student support groups are formed on an as needed basis.
Individual Counseling – Students may be referred to the counselor by an administrator, teacher, parent, or self.
Outside Referrals – Students may be referred to the Student Assistance Program and/or school social worker.
TCAP Testing – Counselors are actively involved in the TCAP testing process.
Parent Volunteer Tutoring – Counselors may match students in need of tutoring assistance with a parent volunteer.
Behavior Contracts – Counselors can help in the development and deliverance of behavior contracts for students on an as needed basis.
New Students – At the beginning of the school year, counselors conduct luncheons for students new to SFMS. Counselors meet with transfer students throughout the school year to assist with adjustment issues.
Ambassador Club – Each homeroom selects a girl & boy student ambassador who is responsible for assisting new students to SFMS, assisting with Orientation programs, and speaking with individuals and groups about our school.
Red Ribbon Week – SFMS says ‘NO’ to drugs. Activities are coordinated through the counseling department to help promote drug awareness.
Career Day – Parents and community members are invited to speak to classrooms about their careers to help students begin developing their career awareness.
6th Grade Orientation – 5th graders from our feeder schools are invited to spend a morning at SFMS to orient them to their new school for the fall. Parents are invited as well to an evening orientation program.
Summer School Program – Students needing academic assistance over the summer may be a candidate for summer school.
High School Registration – 8th grade students are assisted in the completion of their high school 4 year plan.
